First edition in book form. One of only two short stories by Carroll, first printed in the October 1856 issue of The Train Magazine Green, 297 . Introduction by Randolph Edgar. A short prose piece in which Leopold Edgar Stubbs had long yearned for poetry, for beauty, for novelty, for romancement-- and found the last word on a signboard, where it turned out to be 'Roman cement.' Some wear to spine, corners bumped, a few stains on front cover, dust jacket worn and stained with a few tears.
